FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Where are your eyeglass lenses actually made?
Right here in Vernon. Unlike many optical retailers who ship lenses in from overseas labs, we surface every lens in-house at Independent Lenses, our own digital surfacing lab — so your glasses are made locally, not somewhere else in the country.
  2. Is Vernon Optometry environmentally friendly?
Yes! Our building runs on a 100-panel, 38.5kW rooftop solar array (with more panels planned) and a site-wide geothermal well system that provides process heating and cooling directly to our lens-manufacturing equipment — including our alloy blockers, polishing chillers, and anti-reflective coating chambers.
  3. Can you make personalized lenses?
Absolutely. Using precision measurement devices and diamond-tipped CNC equipment, we craft customized aspheric and progressive lenses tailored to your personal fit — all surfaced right here at our own lab, Independent Lenses, in Vernon.
  4. Is there parking available?
Yes, free on-site and street parking.
  5. Do you offer urgent/emergency eye care?
We accommodate same-day/urgent appointments for things like sudden vision changes, eye injuries, or flashes/floaters. Call 250-542-4217 and explain your urgent condition. If outside of office hours or for emergency care, please visit your nearest hospital emergency room.
  6. Do you direct bill my insurance provider?
We direct-bill to most major providers.
  7. Can I choose which doctor I see?
Yes. Vernon Optometry has seven optometrists on staff — Dr. Meghan Ashton, Dr. Mike Rowe, Dr. Amanda Farley, Dr. Samantha Laudinsky, Dr. Conrad Mann, Dr. Bethany Ringel, and Dr. Phillip Shrimpton. You can request a specific doctor when booking.
  8. Is your office wheelchair accessible?
We are on the ground floor, doors are powered with buttons, an accessible washroom, and exam lanes specifically configured to accommodate wheelchairs.
  9. How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our website, call us at 250-542-4217, or email reception@vernonoptometry.ca.
  10. What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring your health card, current glasses or contacts, insurance information, and a list of any medications you're taking.
  11. Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
We accept walk-ins for frame adjustments, contacts, or to browse the frame gallery. We can also accommodate urgent/rush lens replacements.
